Virtual Fabrics allow to maintain required levels of data and fault isolation without increasing cost and complexity.
The Virtual Fabrics feature augments the proven security, enabling organizations to create logical groups of separately managed devices, ports, and switches within a physical SAN.
LightSand's challenge was to interconnect both SANs (customer and IBM BCRS data center) without Merge (Virtual SANs) allowing however the interconnectivity of various devices on both sides to fully support the connectivity solution designed by IBM.
LightSand i-7100F FICON extension gateways used to extend FICON channel over the MAN/WAN. IBM equipment included IBM Tape Libraries 3494, VTS PtP B20 and zSeries servers. Additional equipment included ESS-800 storage subsystems and enterprise class Ethernet switches. The effective extension distance is 44km.
LightSand i-8100B FC extension gateways used to extend FC channel over the MAN/WAN. IBM equipment included: IBM zSeries z/990 servers, ESS-800 and DS8300 storage subsystems. The effective extension distance is 44km.
LightSand's S-series and i-Series gateways provide long distance extension for IBM's latest z/OS and OS/390 disk mirroring solution with XRC (eXtended Remote Copy) FICON over Wide Area Networks.
