Virtual Fabrics allow to maintain required levels of data and fault isolation without increasing cost and complexity.
The Virtual Fabrics feature augments the proven security, enabling organizations to create logical groups of separately managed devices, ports, and switches within a physical SAN.
LightSand's challenge was to interconnect both SANs (customer and IBM BCRS data center) without Merge (Virtual SANs) allowing however the interconnectivity of various devices on both sides to fully support the connectivity solution designed by IBM.
The i-7100F FICON extension gateways utilized to extend FICON channel over MAN/WAN. The solution is exercised in customer production environment in cooperation with IBM BCRS, Portugal. The DiskCopy is used to replicate customer's data from STK storage arrays at customer location to ESS-800 on the IBM BCRS recovery site.
LightSand i-8100B FC extension gateways used to extend FC channel over the MAN/WAN. IBM equipment included: IBM zSeries z/990 servers, ESS-800 and DS8300 storage subsystems. The effective extension distance is 44km.
